Abstrak

One of the outputs of science understanding and skills is in the form of learning outcomes obtained by students during the learning process. Based on interviews with science teachers that have been conducted at SMP N 7 Padang City, it was found that student learning outcomes are still low due to low motivation and interest in learning science and students' readiness to learn from the students themselves which is less than optimal. One of the learning models that is suitable for improving student learning outcomes is Reading to Learn (R2L). This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Reading to Learn learning model on student learning outcomes. The sample of this study consisted of class VII.5 as the experimental class and class VII.6 as the control class with 33 students in each. Learning models are applied to the topic of substances and their changes. The data obtained are student learning outcome data obtained through multiple-choice written tests given at the beginning (pretest) and end of learning (posttest), data on the implementation of learning models. The results of the study indicate that the Reading to Learn model has an effect on learning outcomes.
